Emdoc to deliver the first Dominican mobile IDs

The Central Electoral Board (JCE) that is in charge of civil registry in the Dominican Republic has included the issuing of a pilot test of 800,000 digital cards (RD$244.7 million) in the approved Emdoc contract (for RD$3.36 billion) for the issuing of more than 9.4 million physical ID cards in 2025-2026.

The digital cards are a government-approved, digital version of your physical identification document that is stored securely on smartphones, allowing to verify identity both online and in person.

The digital credentials can be used for a variety of purposes, from accessing public and private services to conducting official transactions, with security features like biometrics and PINs protecting personal information.

The JCE has yet to explain who will get the first mobile ID cards.
