Seven men are now accused of drugging and gang-raping a 21-year old woman in the municipality of Villa González. Six of the men are in the custody of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Santiago province, another is on the run. The arrests came after a video of the assault went viral online, sparking public outrage.
The victim did not know what had happened to her until she saw the video online, several months later. The rape occurred in March 2025.
She would then present the complaint to the Police on Thursday, 28 August 2025, leading to the investigation by the Police and the arrest of the six.
The National Police announced the arrest of the six after an extensive search operation conducted in coordination with the Public Ministry. The operation was led by General Juan Bautista Jiménez Reinoso, director of the Central Cibao regional police force. He deployed a police contingent to execute the arrest warrants for the accused.
The six individuals in custody have been identified as Yamir Fernando Pérez Toribio, Javier Eduardo Núñez Toribio, Oniel Rafael Pichardo Martínez, and Delfry de Jesús Rodríguez, along with two others. All are now awaiting legal proceedings.
The Police are also investigating a friend of the victim, who is suspect of being who made the video of the rape.
The young woman recounted that on that night, she lost consciousness after drinking a beverage at the night club where she was hanging out with some casual friends. She woke up hours later in a hospital, with no memory of what had happened.
“It was only when I saw the video online that I understood the magnitude of what had been done to me,” she said through sobs.
Listin Diario reports that now, in addition to battling trauma and stigma, this young woman and her family are calling for a more just and compassionate society—one where victims are not punished twice: first by their attackers, and then by society’s indifference.
