Former lawmaker Rosa Amalia Pilarte jailed for money laundering

Former congresswoman Rosa Amalia Pilarte (PRM-La Vega) was admitted on Wednesday, 3 September 2025 to the Rafey Women’s Correction and Rehabilitation Center in Santiago to serve a five-year prison sentence for money laundering tied to drug trafficking.

Pilarte was escorted into the facility late Wednesday evening, following her conviction by the Supreme Court of Justice. A video obtained by Diario Libre shows Pilarte being accompanied by several agents from the Penitentiary Surveillance Treatment Department as she was transferred from La Vega.

Pilarte’s arrest took place at the Attorney General’s Office in Santo Domingo. This came after a raid on her home in La Vega by members of the Public Ministry, which led to her presenting herself to authorities.
