In a special event set for the Centro Cultural Taíno Casa del Cordón, renowned composer, conductor, and pianist José Antonio Molina will share his insights into the profound power of music. The conversation, titled “The Depths of Music: Between Creation and Interpretation,” will take place on Thursday, 11 September 2025 at 7pm and is open to the general public with no charge.
The open air patio where the talks are held is relatively small, so getting there early is essential to get a seat. The Thursday talk is one of several memorable talks coordinated by architect José Enrique Delmonte, who is the cultural advisor of the Centro Cultural Taino.
Molina, who serves as the long-standing director of the National Symphony Orchestra, is a celebrated figure in Dominican and international music. During the event, he will discuss how each performance is more than just a show—it’s an emotional exchange between artist and audience. He plans to delve into how he proudly represents the Dominican Republic’s rich cultural heritage on both national and global stages.
A key part of the conversation will focus on the source of his enduring creative energy, which has fueled a career filled with accolades and milestones. The discussion will be moderated by architect and cultural advisor, José Enrique Delmonte.
A graduate of the Manhattan School of Music and the Juilliard School in New York, Molina has a distinguished international career, having conducted orchestras across North America, Europe, and the Middle East. His contributions to the arts have earned him numerous honors, including the Gran Soberano award in 1997, the Order of Duarte, Sánchez, and Mella in 2001, and honorary doctorates from both the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña and the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo.
Since 2009, Molina has been the principal conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra. He also leads the traditional Concierto Altagraciano in Higüey, an event sponsored by the Banco Popular and the Bishopric of Higüey.
The Centro Cultural Taíno Casa del Cordón is an initiative of the Banco Popular Dominicano. The center is regularly open Tuesday through Sunday, from 9:30am to 6:30pm.
