The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has named Nathalie Alvarado Vega as its new representative for the Dominican Republic, effective 1 September 2025.
A Colombian national with over 25 years of experience across Latin America and the Caribbean, Alvarado is an expert in institutional strengthening, with a focus on citizen security and justice. She holds a law degree from the University of Lausanne and a master’s in Economic Integration Law from the Free University of Brussels. The press release from IDB explains that her career is marked by leading innovative development programs and projects, as well as her skill in mobilizing resources and building strategic partnerships.
In her new role, Alvarado will oversee the implementation of the IDB Group’s strategy for the Dominican Republic from 2025 to 2028. This strategy is designed to support the nation’s key development goals by strengthening human capital, promoting private sector growth, and enhancing the efficiency and resilience of the public sector.
Alvarado succeeds Katharina Falkner-Olmedo, who served as the IDB representative for the Dominican Republic for nearly four years and will now assume the same role in Chile.
