Vice President Raquel Peña and Minister of Environment Paino Henriquez were present for the celebrations of the Consorcio Azucarero de Empresas Industriales (CAEI) on the occasion of its 143rd year in business. For years, the company has been modernizing its production of sugar in the Dominican Republic. The company now produces up to 160,000 metric tons of sugar a year.
During a recent event, the company announced it has increased its milling of 11,000 tons of sugar cane. The plan is to surpass the production of 200,000 metric tons of sugar a year.
The company also announced the expansion of San Pedro BioEnergy II adding 25 MW for a total of 55 MW of renewable energy.
