Government touts massive growth in technical training centers

The National Institute of Professional Technical Training (Infotep) has seen an explosive expansion over the past five years, according to remarks made by Minister of the Presidency José Ignacio Paliza at the recent inauguration of a new center in Jarabacoa, La Vega.

Paliza, heading the opening of a new Infotep center in Jarabacoa, La Vega province, highlighted the dramatic increase in technical training facilities as a key achievement of the Luis Abinader administration.

“In only five years, we’ve gone from eight Infotep centers to 62 across the entire country,” Paliza stated, emphasizing the government’s commitment to technical education and creating opportunities for Dominican youth. The 62 centers are now spread across all major regional directorates: Cibao North, Cibao South, East, Metropolitan, Oriental, and South.

The Minister explained that prioritizing technical education and opportunity generation is central to the government’s current four-year plan.

“Every one of the centers Infotep has created is intended to form future generations and, in time, prepare men and women who can contribute to the development of the Dominican Republic,” Paliza said.

The newly opened Mario Nelson Galán Durán Technological Center in Jarabacoa boasts modern facilities, including an electricity workshop, an IT workshop, two academic classrooms, administrative offices, a dedicated Information and Communication Technology (ICT) service area, a division for administrative tasks, and a kitchen.

More centers to open
Infotep general director Rafael Santos Badía noted that the Jarabacoa inauguration is only the first stage of the project in Jarabacoa. Future plans include expanding the building to diversify the academic offerings and further broaden coverage to benefit the vacation and agricultural area.

The government maintains that the expansion of the technical-professional education network reaffirms its priority to bring vocational training closer to the nation’s municipalities and provinces, thus fostering local development and boosting employability.
