The Felix Sanchez Olympic Stadium in Santo Domingo was the stage of the first half of the semi-final series between the Cibao FC and O&M FC to decide the finalist for the Caribbean Cup 2025. The game, played intensely, was a 1-1 draw.
The Cibao team, five-time Dominican champion and last year’s runner-up in the Caribbean Cup, scored first on a very good play by Che Trinidad at the 3-minute mark. Further attempts were stymied by the stiff O&M defense. At the 25-minute mark Herard Franzetys recorded a penalty goal for O&M.
The game continued with steady play and no mistakes by either side. However, Leonardo Villalba of Cibao was given a direct red card at the 76-minute mark and Cibao had to play with just 10 men for the last 24 minutes (plus adjusted down tie). The last intense minutes saw O&M with at least two good chances but excellent play by the porter Edwin (Gato) Frias preserved the tie core.
Now O&M travels to Santiago’s Cibao FC Stadium, located on the campus of the PUCMM, for the second match this coming Thursday, 6 November at 8pm. Tickets are on sale at the stadium or online.
