On ocassion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November 2025, Minister of Interior and Police Faride Raful announced the day before a preliminary, historic reduction of 30.98% in recorded femicides so far in 2025. Minister Raful attributed the significant decline to coordinated actions by a dedicated Task Force and a strengthened institutional response.
Preliminary figures confirm a strong downward trend, showing 49 femicides registered so far in 2025, compared to 71 during the same period in 2024.
Raful reaffirmed that the protection of women and the prevention of femicide remain a national priority.
Minister Raful reiterated that every life lost “is a tragedy for a Dominican family” and underscored the government’s goal to ensure that no woman dies as a result of domestic violence.
The sustained drop, Raful explained, is a direct result of the constant monitoring of reports, timely intervention, and the improved capacity of the responsible institutions to respond effectively.
The Ministry also highlighted a corresponding reduction in reports of domestic violence:
76,431 reports in 2023
71,912 reports in 2024
57,538 reports in 2025 (to date)
Furthermore, Raful commended the work of the National Police’s Specialized for the Attention of Women and Domestic Violence Agency (DEAMVI), which has provided 42,542 preventive services to women nationwide this year. The unit boasts an operational effectiveness of 84% in executing protection measures and arrest warrants.
The Minister also reported that 12,354 men have been impacted by behavioral intervention programs led by the Public Ministry in 2025—a strategy deemed key to addressing the origin of risk and preventing re-offending.
In terms of overall public safety, Raful confirmed that the general homicide rate remains stable at 8.13 per 100,000 inhabitants. She noted that 27 territories are currently reporting single-digit homicide rates, with only seven in double digits, reflecting ongoing progress in national citizen security efforts.
