The Customs Agency has published a new Handbook for Travelers so that both tourists and Dominicans can learn what is permitted and what is not permitted when traveling to avoid paying duties at the port of entry. The booklet is available in Spanish in pdf format online.
The booklet clearly defines just how much currency can be carried, and notes that any amount over US$10,000 must be declared. Details on filing the obligatory e-ticket are given. The booklet also explains about how to obtain permits for certain products through the special Single Window for Foreign Commerce.
The handbook also warns about fresh fruits, controlled substances, and merchandise for resale. Especially helpful are the pointers on pets and foods for pets.
The booklet even tells how to travel with equipment for disabled persons.
It highlights that gifts are permitted but a max of three of the same item and the value needs to be less than US$500.
