New York Metro celebrates Dominican heritage

Two New York City subway cars on the R line, which runs between Queens and Brooklyn, have been decorated to celebrate Dominican culture. This initiative transforms the subway cars into a “Caribbean experience.” Population-wise, New York City is the second largest Dominican city anywhere.

The decorations feature images including the country’s flag, traditional instruments such as the güira and tambora, and landmarks such as the statue of Fray Anton de Montesinos. The cars are adorned inside and out with colorful and vibrant images.

The purpose is to showcase the rich cultural and natural heritage of the Dominican Republic and promote tourism to the island to a diverse audience.
