The newly renovated Museum of the Royal Houses (Museo de las Casas Reales), on Isabel la Catolica Street in the historic Colonial City of Santo Domingo, is inviting to the “Nativity Scenes of the World,” a compelling exhibition showcasing crèches from every continent. The free-of-charge display will run throughout December to 7 January 2026.
The exhibition is a joint effort between the Refidomsa Foundation and the Association of Nativity Scene Creators of the Colonial Zone (Asociación de Belenistas de la Zona Colonial).
Samuel Pereyra, president of the Refidomsa Foundation, sponsor of the event, highlighted: “The exhibition seeks to strengthen the Christmas tradition by displaying the birth of the Christ child as depicted in countless places around the globe.”
The partnership with the Association of Nativity Scene Creators of the Colonial Zone has made the collection available for the free enjoyment of local and foreign visitors, students, and enthusiasts, offering a vibrant blend of the spiritual, the religious, and the artistic.
The exhibition will be open daily from 9am to 8pm. The nativity scenes range from the traditional and the modern. Attendees will experience an added dimension of immersion through augmented reality technology animated with artificial intelligence, providing a contemporary twist to the classic display.
Adding to the spectacle, the Association of Nativity Scene Creators of the Colonial Zone has brought in special guest architect Over Calderón from Colombia.
Nativity scenes association president Mercedes Furment confirmed that Calderón has meticulously recreated the ancient Hebrew city of Bethlehem. This central piece illustrates key moments narrated in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke, including the Annunciation, the Nativity, and the Adoration of the Shepherds.
Dominican families are invited to attend the “spectacle that combines Christian tradition, lights, technology, and Christmas carols,” the latter performed daily by the Refidomsa Foundation’s children’s choir.
