Hamaca rebranded as Santo Domingo Bay

Grupo Globalia, also the owner of Air Europa, has officially relaunched the iconic Hamaca hotel in Boca Chica as the Santo Domingo Bay Convention Resort & Casino.

President Luis Abinader and Tourism Minister David Collado attended the reopening event. The Santo Domingo Bay Convention Resort & Casino now presents a comprehensive package designed for both leisure travelers and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) groups, offering facilities ideal for weddings and major conventions.

The newly renovated hotel seeks to position itself as the all-inclusive experience nearest to the Dominican Republic’s capital.

The resort, strategically located just 10 minutes from Las Américas International Airport and a 30-minute drive from the historic Colonial City, is being marketed as a new meeting point connecting the city and the sea.

Tourism Minister David Collado emphasized the significant economic injection this project represents for the area. He said US$40 million were invested in the renovation of the hotel accommodations, another US$60 million in 325 apartment units. These are all sold out.

Juan José Hidalgo, executive president of Grupo Globalia, attended the inauguration and thanked the Dominican government for its staunch support of the tourism sector. He also announced that the group would be expanding its Air Europa flight operations between Santo Domingo and Europe, further boosting connectivity.
