Nothing is settled yet in the Dominican Professional Winter Baseball League’s 2025-2026 Championship. Only the Aguilas Cibaeñas and the Toros del Este have secured slots. The Estrellas Orientales, Leones del Escogido, Tigres del Licey and Gigantes del Cibao hope to win the two missing playoff slots.
The Aguilas and Toros are the only teams comfortably above .500 in the standings as of Sunday, 22 December 2025. The Aguilas lead the pack with a dominant 32-16 record, yet the Toros defeated them on Sunday at their La Romana stadium to post a standing of 26 wins and 22 losses.
The Gigantes del Cibao follow with 22 wins and 26 losses. Next on the standing are the Leones del Escogido (21-25), Estrellas Orientales (22-27), and Tigres del Licey (21-27), all three locked in a battle that could go down to the final pitch.
Sunday’s results shook up the standings significantly. In the weekend game, the Estrellas, Leones, and Tigres all suffered losses. The Gigantes secured a crucial victory over the Leones, vaulting them into third place. This was a dramatic shift, as the Gigantes had started the day tied for last place with the Tigres.
The pressure now mounts this Monday, 22 December. The Estrellas will match the Leones. The winner of this game will reach 23 victories and clinch their spot in the postseason.
The Tigres and Gigantes have a two-game series remaining against each other in San Francisco de Macoris, home of the Gigantes. If the Gigantes manage to win at least one of the two games, they will advance alongside the winner of the Estrellas/Leones matchup. The Tigres must win both the games to secure their spot by Tuesday.
The Monday games will be Toros vs Leones in the Santo Domingo, Gigantes vs Estrellas in San Pedro and Aguilas vs Tigres in Santiago. Games start at 7:15pm in Santo Domingo and 7:30pm in the provinces.
The regular season ends on 23 December 2025. If a tie-breaker game is required, it would be played on Wednesday, 24 December, right before the traditional Christmas Eve dinner gathering in the Dominican Republic.
