The Dominican Winter League (Lidom) Round Robin playoffs intensified this weekend, leaving the Leones del Escogido, the capital city team, firmly in command of the semifinals. A fierce battle for the second qualifying spot has emerged between the Águilas Cibaeñas, the Santiago-based team, and Toros del Este, of La Romana.
Following their dominant weekend performance, the Leones (10-3) have separated from the pack. Meanwhile, the Águilas Cibaeñas (7-6) and Toros del Este (7-6) are now deadlocked in a tie for the critical second place ticket to the finals. Both teams are three games behind. The Gigantes del Cibao (2-11) won weekend games, but they remain in the basement, eight games behind.
