Escogido lead, Toros get second, yet Aguilas still could make the finals

In the 2025-2026 Lidom Professional Baseball Championship round robin, in a game that ended 5 runs to 1, the Leones del Escogido have practically secured their spot in the final series by defeating the Gigantes del Cibao. The Gigantes are now mathematically eliminated from contention for the final.

The race for the second ticket continues to be a high-stakes duel between the Toros del Este and the Águilas Cibaeñas. Nevertheless, the Toros on Wednesday, 14 January defeated the Aguilas 3-0 to break the tie for the second place.

The standings are now the Leonel del Escogido (11-4), Toros del Este (9-6), Aguilas Cibaeñas (8-7) and Gigantes del Cibao (2-13). The top two teams from the round robin advance to the best-of-seven final series.

The Águilas must capitalize on their remaining games (including home stand at Estadio Cibao) to bridge the one-game gap. Meanwhile, the Toros del Este team, led by season MVP Bryan De La Cruz, is looking to maintain the momentum to set up a “City vs. East” final against the Leones.
