Cemdoe is now a full-service hospital

In a significant expansion of its medical infrastructure, the Medical Center for Diabetes, Obesity, and Specialties (Cemdoe) has officially transitioned from an ambulatory care model to a full-service hospital. As of 19 January 2026, Cemdoe offers patient internment in addition to its comprehensive clinical offerings, marking a new phase in its evolution aimed at providing continuous, long-term care for the community.

Cemdoe is a private clinic that accepts most medical insurance plans. Word of mouth on its efficient medical services and its location in western Santo Domingo have attracted thousands of patients.

The new hospital wing features modern private rooms designed for patient recovery and a multidisciplinary Intensive Care Unit (ICU). These facilities allow the center to manage complex clinical cases that require overnight stays and constant monitoring, moving beyond its previous focus on outpatient procedures. According to the center, this shift is part of a broader strategy to provide an integral care model that follows the patient from initial diagnosis through hospitalization and recovery.

In addition to the internment services, Cemdoe inaugurated a 24/7 Emergency Room equipped to handle urgent medical situations year-round. The emergency unit includes a structured triage system, observation areas, and specialized trauma and resuscitation rooms. The expansion also encompasses high-complexity operating rooms and a new Hemodynamics and Interventional Cardiology unit, enabling the center to perform advanced vascular and cardiac procedures.

The center is best known for its established ambulatory services, including laboratory work, imaging, and specialized consultations. The Cemdoe website highlights that the transition to full hospital services ensures that patients have access to a seamless healthcare experience, combining the convenience of outpatient care with the high-level security and technology of a dedicated hospital environment.
