According to reports from the Presidency, President Luis Abinader arrived in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday, 2 February 2026, to participate in the World Governments Summit (WGS). The President’s agenda centers on positioning the Dominican Republic as a regional leader in economic stability, innovation, and sustainable development. President Abinader has been active inviting Arabs to invest in the Dominican Republic.
During his stay, the President has been holding bilateral meetings with other world leaders and representatives from international organizations. A key focus of his mission is to highlight the Dominican Republic’s role as a “logistics bridge” between the Caribbean and global markets, and very especially the United States. The DR last year hosted the regional WGS-LAC Dialogue in Punta Cana in late 2025.
Abinader is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including the Ministers of Finance Magin Diaz, and Housing Victor (Ito) Bisono, and Biviana Riveiro, director of Pro Dominicana, the country’s export and investment promotion agency, among others on the official delegation.
Regional reporting emphasizes the theme “Shaping Future Governments,” focusing on how technology and innovation can solve universal human challenges.
The UAE press has noted the presence of Latin American leaders like Abinader as part of a broader push to diversify international partnerships. Coverage highlights that the summit serves as a platform for these nations to engage with Gulf investors. The involvement of the Dominican Republic is seen as a continuation of the strengthening ties between the UAE and the Caribbean, specifically in sectors like port logistics and renewable energy.
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of global logistics giant DP World, hailed the Dominican Republic’s sustained economic growth and emergence as a premier destination for international capital during a high-level panel at the 2026 World Government Summit. Speaking in Dubai, Bin Sulayem attributed the company’s success in the Caribbean nation to a trifecta of stability, visionary leadership, and institutional trust. He emphasized that the country has successfully consolidated its reputation as a reliable partner for global investors.
“The country is attractive because there is confidence, there is economic flow, and there is a government that supports business development,” Bin Sulayem stated during the summit, which concludes tomorrow.
During his stay in Dubai, President Luis Abinader held a special meeting with members of the Dominican diaspora residing in Dubai and across the United Arab Emirates. The President listened to their experiences abroad. He expressed profound pride in the community, characterizing them as ambassadors of Dominican values and “exemplary citizens” on the global stage.
During the exchange, which touched on topics ranging from improved consular services to the potential for direct flights between the two nations, Abinader emphasized his administration’s commitment to maintaining a close bond with the diaspora. He concluded by urging the community to continue their role as a “lighthouse of tranquility” and progress, noting that their success abroad reflects the best of their homeland.
