President Luis Abinader issued Presidential Decree 67-26 that creates a special commission to monitor measures taken within the framework of the on-going dialogue regarding the multidimensional crisis in Haiti and its implications for the Dominican Republic.
The commission has no operational functions and its operations will be supported by the several ministries that make up the commission. It will be led by the Minister for the Presidency, Jose Ignacio Paliza, and its members will include personnel from the ministries of Defense, Foreign Relations, Labor, plus the Director General of Migration and the executive director of the National Institute for Migration. Other members include the head of the executive commission of the Migration Policy Oversight Commission, and the chairman of the Economic and Social Council.
The task of this working group is to provide the Executive Branch with quarterly reports regarding the measures being taken in Haiti itself as well as the steps being taken to achieve those goals and any obstacles that they may be encountering.
In new developments, Haitian waters are patrolled by a US Navy ship, the term of Alix Didier Fils-Aime was extended as acting head of government and the start of an expanded UN-backed security force (GSF) is expected.
