The Superintendency of Health and Occupational Risks (Sisalril) has announced a significant increase in medical coverage for traffic accidents under the Family Health Insurance (SFS) plan.
Effective 1 February 2026, the new coverage ceiling for medical care resulting from traffic incidents has been raised to RD$1,393,380.00. The adjustment aims to provide greater financial security for affiliates facing emergency medical costs in a country with high road incident rates.
The increase reflects the government efforts to act after the accidents. The Abinader administration has built new traumatology hospitals on highways that have been effective in reducing traffic accident deaths. Nevertheless, important preventive actions have yet to be taken in areas such as enforcing traffic laws for motorcyclists, known to cause around 80% of the accidents, and controlling drinking and driving. Beer and liquors are sold in gas stations and colmados alongside highways and roads.
