Freezing temperatures have returned to the mountainous region of Valle Nuevo, Constanza, where a minimum temperature of -1°C was recorded for the evening of 10 February 2026. This drop in temperature is part of a broader cooling trend affecting the central Cibao region and northwestern provinces due to a stationary cold front currently over the Dominican Republic.
Local meteorological reports confirm that the intense cold in Valle Nuevo resulted in frost formation, specifically in the Rancho en Medio area near the entrance to Alto Bandera in the Valle Nuevo National Park in La Vega province.
Other reports of low temperatures are for”
• Santiago: 14°C
• Constanza and Jarabacoa: 13°C to 14°C
• Moca, La Vega, and Bonao: Lows between 13°C and 14°C
The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) predicts that these pleasant, cool temperatures will persist for several days. Residents in high-altitude areas are advised to wear appropriate clothing and protect vulnerable groups, such as children and the elderly, as respiratory illnesses have seen an increase since late December due to the seasonal weather shifts.
