Trump Summit in Miami on Saturday, President Abinader will be there

President Luis Abinader will travel to Miami to attend the 7 March 2026 Shield of the Americas high-level summit called by the US administration. US President Donald Trump has invited heads of state Javier Milei (Argentina), Rodrigo Paz (Bolivia), Daniel Noboa (Ecuador), Nayib Bukele (El Salvador), Nasry Asfura (Honduras), Santiago Peña (Paraguay and Luis Abinader (Dominican Republic). The White House also mentioned in an announcement on 4 March that invitations to attend were also sent to Chile, Costa Rica, Trinidad and Tobago, “and some others”, according to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.

The Miami meeting effectively reshapes the regional diplomatic calendar, after the cancellation of the Summit of the Americas, which the Dominican Republic was slated to host in Punta Cana in early December 2025. That event, organized by the OAS and the US State Department, was scrapped with the new Trump administration signaling a shift toward more exclusive, US-led diplomatic formats.

The goal of the summit is to promote “freedom, security, and prosperity in our region,” said the press secretary for the US government.
