Table Tennis Pavilion ready for 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games

As the Dominican Republic intensifies preparations for the 25th Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, the Ministry of Housing, Habitat, and Buildings (Mived) officially delivered the fully remodeled Table Tennis Pavilion at Parque del Este on Monday, 30 March 2026.

The renovation is part of a broader sports infrastructure overhaul managed by Mived to meet international high-performance standards ahead of the regional multisport event scheduled for July 2026. Minister Víctor “Ito” Bisonó emphasized that the facility now aligns with the rigorous technical requirements of global competition.

“This is an infrastructure that organizes, functions, and responds to the international standards that high-level sports require today,” stated Bisonó. “It provides everything necessary for table tennis to be practiced at a high-performance level.”

Technical specifications and upgrades
The refurbishment focused on both structural integrity and technological modernization. Key improvements to the pavilion include:
• Capacity: Seating for 1,344 spectators, including a dedicated VIP area.
• Infrastructure: Comprehensive maintenance and painting of the roof structure, alongside new interior and exterior lighting systems.
• Systems: Full modernization of electrical, sanitary, and data networks, plus the installation of CCTV security and fire detection systems.
• Athlete Amenities: New locker rooms, a specialized gym, a doping control station, and administrative offices.
• Accessibility: Renovated restrooms for the general public and specialized facilities for persons with disabilities.

The Table Tennis Pavilion joins a growing list of completed venues ready for the regional sports games. Other facilities that have completed their renovations are: archery, fencing, weightlifting and swimming. The swim center has been certified. Bisono said the swimming and karate facilities will soon be received by his Ministry.

The renovated facilities are expected to increase the number of international sports events the country will host in years to come. The Dominican Republic is a popular sports tourism destination.

Moreover, more than for international sports events, Bisono highlighted the Juan Pablo Olympic Center and Parque del Este are being readied for the regular use of all Dominicans. He said the facilities need consistent maintenance.

Minister Bisonó confirmed that the Mived schedule remains accelerated, with additional sporting installations slated for delivery in the coming days to stay ahead of the July 2026 kickoff.

The 25th Central American and Caribbean Games (Santo Domingo 2026) are scheduled to take place from 24 July to 8 August 2026. The event, often referred to as the “Centennial Games,” marks 100 years since the inaugural games in 1926. While the official opening ceremony is set for 24 July, some preliminary competitions, such as water polo, are expected to begin a few days earlier to accommodate the full tournament schedule. Over 6,000 athletes from 37 nations will compete in 40 sports.
