Cocaine trafficker sentence reduced

Puerto Rican TV person, Laura Hernandez is now due to be released from jail in the Dominican Republic in September, after the court of appeals of San Pedro de Macoris reduced from seven to three years in prison her time for trafficking in cocaine. Her husband Marcos Irizarry, also arrested for trafficking in cocaine, also received a reduction in his jail time, from 15 to 10 years. The couple was arrested in the Higuey area, traveling with 70.4 kilo of cocaine in September 2002. Judge Marcelina Hernandez of San Pedro de Macoris also reduced the time in jaill for accomplices Antonio Rodriguez Morales, Jorge Ortiz Batista, and that of Karla Michelle Morales and Heidy Romero. Two others that had been arrested in the drug bust, Arod Levy III and Edwin Cotto, died in the trafic Higuey jail fire on 7 March.
