The torrential rainfall due to a tropical low-pressure ridge passing over the Dominican Republic caused the interruption of traffic between several communities in the Bonao area. The Masipedro River burst its banks, diverting the main stream fifty meters from the normal riverbed in some places, as well as destroying the low-lying river crossing at El Bad?n. At the same time, the Yuboa, Tireo and Blanco rivers were at flood stage, and local residents seeking relief from the heat were caught by the high waters and forced to spend the night in the area. Communities such as Los Bleos, Masipedro, El Frontino, Arroyo Toro, El Callej?n, Arroyo Dulce, El Cruce, Los Cocos and La Base were cut off from the town of Bonao and the rest of Monsenor Nouel province. Local fire departments and Civil Defense workers were called in to rescue those isolated by the flood waters. With another tropical low pressure wave expected within a couple of days, Civil Defense officials and the National Emergency Commission are warning people living in low-lying areas to be on alert for renewed flooding.
