The recently elected secretary general and the official spokesperson of the PRD in the Chamber of Deputies have come out and said that Hip?lito Mej?a cannot make deals on behalf of the party. Orlando Jorge Mera and Ram?n Agramonte warned that only the party’s internal mechanisms could establish the PRD’s position on the FTA and the new tax proposals. Both men were referring to the meeting between Mej?a and President Fern?ndez yesterday. Jorge Mera said that the meeting was healthy, but it is the party that has to decide which position it would take regarding the issues. While Orlando Jorge Mera said that he was sure that Mej?a established the position of the PRD with respect to the free trade agreement, Agramonte said he felt it was a little
"off the cuff" for the former President to commit the PRD to the current government regarding decisions that belong to party structures.
