
Dominican Republic national basketball team is in Montevideo, Uruguay for the FIBA AmeriCup. The Dominican Republic will be playing in Group C of the Gropu Phase of the tournament.
Group C of the FIBA AmeriCup 2017 will be played from August 28-30 at the Palacio Peñarol in Montevideo with the participation of the national teams from the Dominican Republic, the United States, Panama and hosts Uruguay. The winner of the qualifying group will qualify for the FIBA AmeriCup Final Four in Cordoba, Argentina.
The 12-player roster for the Dominican Republic is under coach Melvyn López and is made up by Jonathan Araujo, Juan Coronado, Adris de León, Victor Liz, Agnel Delgado, Rigoberto Mendoza, Angel Núñez, Dagoberto Peña, Sadiel Rojas, Edward Santana, Gelvis Solano, Juan Miguel Suero. Of these, Juan Coronado, Victor Liz and Edward Santana were on the Dominican team that made Round of 16 at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
Coach López told FIBA: “We are aiming for this group to carry us to the Final Four of the AmeriCup, always concentrating on one game at a time. Our first challenge is against Uruguay (28 August) at 7pm (Dominican time) and it could be the most difficult, so we are going to focus on them.” On 29 August, the DR will play Panama at 5pm, and on 30 August, the team will play the USA.
