The Ministry of Energy and Mines and the National Competitiveness Council signed an inter-institutional agreement for the registration of definitive label of origin for larimar, the rare gemstone only found in Barahona in the southwest. The agreement would help establish mechanisms for the appropriate extraction of pectolite, the geological source of larimar.
The registration of the appellation of origin is presented before the National Office of Industrial Property (ONAPI).
