Congress passes bill creates Dominican Coffee Institute

The Chamber of Deputies passed the bill that creates the Dominican Coffee Institute (Indocafé). The bill received 113 votes in favor and 3 against of 178 deputies. The deputies passed amendments to the original bill they had received from the Senate.

It is intended to establish policies to regulate and develop and make more efficient coffee production in the country. The legislation declares coffee production of importance for the conservation of natural resources and highlights its impact on the economy of rural families and their communities.

The Indocafe bill was submitted by Lucia Medina (PLD-San Juan de la Maguana). It now passes to the President Danilo Medina for his signature and subsequent publication.
