President Danilo Medina was in Puerto Plata on Sunday, 19 November 2017 to visit the La Isabela Historic National Park. He ordered improvements be made to the road leading to La Isabela and the construction of a bridge.
President Medina toured the La Isabela museum, hosted by Culture Minister Pedro Vergés. The museum, built with the assistance of the Spanish government, was inaugurated in 1992, to mark the 500th anniversary of the encounter of the New and Old Worlds.
President Medina’s visit is a follow up to Decree 38-17 that ordered improvements be made to the historic site that marks where the first European settlement in the New World was built in 1494.
