Rivers overflowing and trees down due to rains

The Center for Emergency Operations (COE) has announced that due to the recent rains and strong winds, an almond tree that fell onto the Malecon in Puerto Plata and blocked the traffic has now been cleared.

In addition in La Vega, due to the rising of the Bacui River some 400 people had to leave their homes but have now returned. Another tree was blown down on the La Vega – Jarabacoa road which also blocked traffic.

The Jimenoa River also overflowed, flooding part of Sabaneta but no one had to be evacuated and Juana Rodriguez in Duarte province has been cut off as well as the communities of Las Palmitas, Villa Alegre, Los Cerros, Guazaro, Arroyo al Medio and others in the Municipal District of Arroyo al Medio.

Also cut off in the Municipal District of Las Gordas due to the overflowing of the Boba River as the communities of Los Jengibres, Laguna del Caimán, Los Guayabitos, and Los Memizos, and in the Municipality of El Factor, the communities of Vuelta Larga, Cinta Negra, El Papayo and El Higüero are cut off due to the overflowing of the El Papayo River.
