
Father Rogelio Cruz disputed statements by the Congregacion Salesiana and confirmed he had a letter that ordered his indefinite transfer to Colombia. Father Rogelio says the transfer is part of a plan to get him out of circulation. He said powerful people have been pressuring to remove him from the country so he cannot continue his social work.
Father Rogelio suspects mining companies have lobbied for his removal. The priest, a very successful community organizer, has been very outspoken against mining in the Dominican Republic.
Father Rogelio showed the press a letter dated 1 February 2018, signed by Father Francisco Batista and Father Wilson Rosario establishing his transfer to the Centro Pastoral Sacerdotal in Casa El Rodeo de La Ceja in Antioquía, Colombia. The religious community leadership had said that Father Rogelio had been invited to a priest renovation course for three months in Medellín. His brother, Alberto Cruz, who is the president of the Fundación Padre Rogelio, said that the area where Father Rogelio is being sent is where the Pablo Escobar cartel originated. Father Rogelio noted it is a dangerous area. Father Rogelio says he is not leaving.
