The Ministry of Tourism was host to the Latin America Meeting & Incentive Travel Exchange 2018 (Lamite) from 18-20 June 2018. The meetings took place at the Jaragua Renaissance and the Santo Domingo Sheraton hotels on the Malecón in Santo Domingo. The event brought together travel wholesalers and other tourism industry businesses.
Deputy Minister of Tourism Fausto Fernandez welcomed the guests from all of Latin America during the welcome reception at Lulu Tasting Bar in the Colonial City. He spoke of how tourism is a fundamental part of the Dominican economy and the impact of events of this kind.
Fernandez said, as quoted in El Nacional: “I especially welcome those that are registered in conventions and events in the MICE [Meetings, Incentive, Conventions and Evens) tourism industry segment, which is one which we (the Dominican Republic) want to push. He expressed his pride in the country having so many interesting things to offer and that it is now a mature destination.
The Latin America Meeting & Incentive Travel Exchange is put together by the Questex Travel Group, publisher of International Meetings Review.
“This is the MICE industry’s only event that brings global suppliers to Latin America to meet one-on-one with pre-qualified, Latin America-based buyers,” said Jill Birkett, event director, Questex Travel Group. “No other organizer offers the private, one-to-one meeting concept, which gives suppliers optimal networking and relationship building opportunities.”
Suppliers at the event represent cruise lines, tour operators, destination management companies and sought-after incentive destinations, hotels, resorts and spas across the globe.
