
Among the most powerful economic and political players in the Dominican Republic met at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday, 11 July 2018 to rubber stamp further ways to improve the business climate in the country. President Danilo Medina chaired the meeting. According to reports, the meeting was held to find more measures to create business and job opportunities for people as well as for improving the business climate.
The Presidency announced the issuing of Decree 258-18 that calls for an inventory of regulations in productive sectors of the country in order to subsequently cut red tape. Also enacted was Decree 259-18 that orders the implementation of a single stop window for paperwork for constructions. And Decree 260-18 that modifies the rules for the application of Industrial Property Law 20-00 on Commercial Name Registrations, that is under the National Office of Industrial Property (Onapi). The name registration procedure should take 24 hours.
The Presidency reported that previous meetings have produced decisions such as Decree 117-18 that established the automatic renewal of the sanitary registration and a digital platform to expedite its issuing, reducing red tape by 75%.
Attending the fourth session of the presidential competitiveness council were Presidency minister, Presidency administrative minister, the ministers of economy, hacienda, tourism, agriculture, industry and commerce, and the director of the Center for Export & Investment (CEI-RD).
The private sector was represented by the director of the National Business Council, and chief executives of Grupo M, Centro Cuesta Nacional, Banco Popular, BHD Leon, Grupo Punta Cana, Punta Caucedo Port, Grupo Inicia, Grupo SID, among others.
