US reserve personnel to Barahona

The US Southern Command and the Dominican Armed Forces will perform the 2006 New Horizons joint exercises in the province of Barahona, with the participation of 450 members of the US reserve, as reported by Hoy newspaper. The information was disclosed by US ambassador Hans Hertell and army General Osvaldo Reyes Fernandez during a press conference also attended by colonel Thomas Heaney, from the US Southern Command. During the exercises, four health centers and three wells will be built in the communities of Los Robles, Mena Arriba, Barrio Milton and La Lista, and medical attention will also be provided in these locations. Hertell said that this humanitarian project is an example of cooperation between two friendly countries with the participation of US voluntary personnel together with Dominican Public Health and Public Works Ministry staff, and the Armed Forces. The diplomat thanked all present for their valuable collaboration.
