Members of the police attached to the Central Anti-Narcotics Department (Dican) have confiscated 14.6 pounds of marijuana, which was being transported in a vehicle during a raid in the Jeremias sector in La Vega province on Sunday, 29 July 2018. Three people were arrested in the operation. Those arrested are Ambiorix Cepeda Jiménez, Candy María Torres Hidalgo and Yismeiry Yordaliza Reyes Reyes, both aged 19.
According to police, the arrests occurred when the car that allegedly was carrying the drugs was stopped after having been involved in an accident in the Jeremias sector of La Vega.
As the investigation of the accident was underway, members of Dican received information about a possible drug transaction carried out by the people in the car. The local prosecutor arrived at the scene and inspected the car and found packets of drugs in the trunk and more packets strewn on the ground a few meters away from the car.
Also confiscated were cell phones and personal documents of those in the car. Agents located the suspects involved in the accident and the illegal sale of the drugs in a La Vega hospital while receiving medical attention for their injuries suffered in the accident.
