The organizers of the XIII National Sports Games, an extravaganza that has resulted in the construction of massive sporting installations in towns all around the country that for the most part are abandoned afterwards, will take place on 17-24 February in Monte Plata and the nearby towns of Bayaguana, Sabana Grande de Boya and Yamasa, announced the government. Competitions will take place in 18 sports, and seven exhibition sports. Athletes will compete in track & field, chess, badminton, basketball, handball, baseball, boxing, cycling, soccer, judo, karate, weightlifting, wrestling, softball, tae kwon do, table tennis, volleyball, and beach volleyball. Exhibition sports this year will be shooting, gymnastics, equestrian competitions, rowing, fencing and swimming. Nearly 4,000 athletes are expected to compete.
