Yesterday, the new overpass at the intersection of Los Alcarrizos on Duarte Highway was formally inaugurated by President Leonel Fernandez. The public function was attended by Public Works Minister Freddy Perez, who was the main speaker. Also present was engineer Antonio Hernandez, representing Ingenieria Metalica, S.A., the company that built the project. The project cost RD$588.7 million. It was built in nine months. The over pass has two lanes in each direction and is 757 meters long. It was designed to handle all types of traffic. An estimated 80,000 vehicles use it daily as it is the main link between Santo Domingo and the central and northern parts of the country. The overpass had been in operation since the holidays.
