10-year ban for local football federation head

Osiris Guzmán / Listín Diario

The International Football Federation (FIFA) ethics committee has banned the president of the Dominican football federation, Osiris Guzmán, for 10 years after reviewing the findings of a formal investigation of a bribery case involving Guzman. He was also penalized with a fine of 51,000 Swiss francs. The announcement was published on 12 October 2018. FIFA charges that Guzman accepted gifts and entered into conflicts of interest.

The president of the Dominican football federation (Fedofutbol), Osiris Guzmán was already on a provisional ban that prevented him from participating in World Cup Games and the 2026 World Cup hosting vote in Russia. Guzmán had served a 15-day ban in 2011 in fallout from a FIFA election bribery investigation. Guzman has said he will appeal.

Guzmán has presided the local soccer federation for over 25 years. Local elections are set for December 2018.
