
President Danilo Medina leaves on trip to China on Wednesday, 31 October 2018, for the country’s first official visit to China. He will be one of three regional statesmen to meet with President Xi Jinping of China this coming week. Medina reportedly will be in China on 2 and 3 November for meetings with President Xi Jinping, the Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Li Keqiang, and with the president of the Permanent Committee of the National Assembly of the People’s Republic of China, Li Zhanshu among other Chinese authorities.
According to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also present in China during the week of 31 October to 8 November will be the Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel and El Salvador President Salvador Sánchez Cerén. The three presidents have been invited by Chinese President Xi Jinping and they are expected to participate in the Global Chinese International Import Fair that will take place in Shanghai from 5 to 10 November.
On President Danilo Medina’s agenda is the opening of the Dominican Embassy in Beijing, a visit to Shenzhen to tour manufacturing plants and a business incubator. Several Medina cabinet ministers will be traveling to China for the signing of cooperation agreements in security, trade, infrastructure, technology, tourism, energy, finance, education and cultural matters.
A large number of local journalists are traveling to China to cover the event. Among journalists that will be covering the event are: Franklin Puello, of El Día; Martín Polanco, El Caribe; Adonis Díaz, Diario Libre; Pedro Castro, El Nacional; Ramón Pérez Reyes, Listín Diario; Eulices Jiménez and Alberto Caminero, Grupo Telemicro, and Diego Pesqueira, from Hoy, among others.
