
In Puerto Plata, due to the 24-hour strike, there was no public transport at all and the roads were empty. Dozens of workers were stranded waiting for their transport to work but there were only private vehicles on the road, in addition to a large quantity of military with rifles and police officers with shotguns in strategic locations. The schools were however open although many parents opted not to send their children to school. Tires were burning on the Montellano-Sosua road in Los Charamicos but they were taken away by police agents.
