
The warm waters of Cabarete beach are ready to receive competitors coming for the 17th Caribbean Laser Midwinter Regatta on Puerto Plata’s northern coastal waters. The event is scheduled for 18-20 January 2019. Cabarete is a world recognized terrific venue that provides great accommodations, trusty trade winds, warm waters and lots of fun places to eat and go for onshore activities on the north coast for the competitors and their family.
As a result some of the world’s fastest Laser sailors come on down to Puerto Plata for the traditional high quality competition.
The event is organized by laser competitor Ari Barshi, who runs the Carib Wind Cabarete Laser training center. The event has grown to where it is now a World Sailing grade II ranking event. For the January 2019, Barshi says that four of the top ten sailors in the world in the category have registered to participate in the regatta.
This year, sailors from Argentina, Canada, the United States, Norway, Sweden, Great Britain, Holland and the Dominican Republic have registered. 70+ year old Peter Seidenberg of the United States will be racing in the event for his 16th time.
During the competition, nine races of around 45 minutes long are scheduled.
