The president of the ferronickel mining company Falconbridge Dominicana, 48-year old Mexican Sergio Chavez Gutierrez died last Saturday at around 6:20 am when his car turned over as he traveled to Santo Domingo. He was on his way to a golf tournament. The accident occurred about 20 minutes from Santo Domingo, at the Villa Altagracia point of Duarte Highway. He died from concussions received during the accident. His body would be cremated and sent back to Mexico. He was married to Hortensia Rodriguez and they had three children. He had lived in Bonao for the past nine years. His body was mourned by hundreds at the Club Falcondo in Bonao. News stories say that he normally drove with a chauffeur, but this time was driving himself because his driver’s wife had recently given birth.
