A tragic accident involved Santo Domingo East deputy Karen Ricardo who was returning with her husband Lorenzo Sanchez, child and nanny from Samana on Saturday afternoon. The parents and nanny Alexandra Vargas were hospitalized at the Dario Contreras Trauma Hospital and her two children were sent to the Dr. Hugo Mendoza Pediatrics Hospital on Av. Charles de Gaulle in eastern Santo Domingo. The deputy suffered trauma of the torax, cervical, and injuries in her right arm but is stable.
The crash occurred at the point of Km. 29 on the Autopista del Nordeste (Papa Juan Pablo II) on the Samana toll road. The Sanchez family SUV crashed into another vehicle, a Toyota Paseo, driven by 29-year old policeman Johnny Armando Santana Rodriguez of Los Llanos, San Pedro de Macoris, who died shortly after at the Monte Plata public hospital where he was taken.
