Dominican women are borrowing more

There is relatively not much of a distinction between men and women when it comes to borrowing money from banks in the Dominican Republic. The Superintendence of Banks, Luis Armando Asuncion reports that 934,529 men and 859,969 women have taken on bank loans. Banks lent RD$352.47 billion to persons in the Dominican Republic. While borrowing was down for men, it was significantly up for women.

The Superintendence said that women borrowing was up RD$21.19 billion in 2018.

Per every 10,000 inhabitants in the country, there are 2,433 that owe banks money. Likewise, 24,438 companies borrowed from banks.

50.8% of the credits to the business sector were to manufacturing, construction, real estate, hotels and farm business, or RD$563.4 billion. Another 25.9% of loans was for the purchase of vehicles, and personal loans. 16.8% was for mortgage loans, or RD$186.1 billion in 96,343 loan contracts.
