Rosa Encarnación tells her story on Facebook

Investigative journalist Rosa Encarnación shared on her Facebook page a video about her departure from the popular station Z101 afternoon talk show “El Gobierno de la Tarde.” On Tuesday, 19 February and Wednesday, 20 February, Encarnación had made commentaries critical to wasteful spending of Administrative Minister of the Presidency José Ramón Peralta and former Education Minister Andrés Navarro.

A YouTube video of her 19 February 2019 talk show where she describes as free spending alcoholic beverage purchases in July and December 2018 for RD$1.7 million by the Administrative Ministry of the Presidency went viral last week. On the same 19 February talk show, Encarnación had also criticized the purchase of a RD$156,350 gold-laminated pen and another RD$8 million in restaurant vouchers.

Encarnación said that she got a call after reporting these expeditures and was told she would no longer be a part of the analysis and opinion talk show. She could continue on the “La Z con el Pueblo” program. When she asked for the reasons, she was told “routine changes.”

She presented her verbal immediate resignation saying she could not continue to work where she felt she was being gagged. “I decided to resign because I have dignity and I could not allow myself to be treated that way as a professional. I believe in free journalism, in the free press, in the freedom of the press, “said the communicator.

Others that continue on the afternoon talk show are Andrés L. Mateo, Julissa Cespedes, Fafa Taveras, Eddy Alcántara, José Luis Mendoza and Esteban Delgado.
