Restaurants will argue the crab or lobster they are serving are from their frozen inventories, but the best way people can contribute to keeping the species available is to respect the ban. Order something else during the established closed season.
Lobster and crab fishing is banned regionally from 1 March to 30 June 2019 in countries that are members of the System for Central American Integration (SICA). These countries are Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador and the Dominican Republic. During this period the Caribbean Spiny Lobster cannot be caught or commercialized.
