The ruling PLD party membership that backs President Danilo Medina in what would be his reelection bid announced a major event at the Gran Arena del Cibao for Sunday, 7 April 2019. The event is announced as a gathering to recognize the social, economic and cultural impact of the Medina administration.
The event was announced in a press conference by Santiago senator, Julio César Valentín, who called for en masse support to the event. He said the event would demonstrate the great impact the six years and seven months government of Medina has had in benefiting the most vulnerable. Valentín said that Medina had done more for the needy than all other governments together over the past 40 years.
Also attending the press conference was Education Minister Antonio Peña Mirabal and the director of the Santiago Water Corporation (
The 2015 Constitution bans President Danilo Medina from seeking re-election in the 2020 general election.
