
President Danilo Medina had named 2018 the Year for the Promotion of Exports. Nevertheless, Dominican exports will need more than a year of promotion to gain on imports. Central Bank statistics for the year reveal that for the first time imports double exports. In 2018, imports were US$20,208.9 million compared to US$10,907.6 million in exports. Petroleum products accounted for US$3,730.1 million, 18% of the total imports.
