President Medina recognizes top US Dominican high school graduates

President Danilo Medina hosted outstanding Dominican students from United States high schools at the Presidential Palace on Friday, 15 August 2019. The students were from New Jersey, Colorado, Pennsylvania and New York. President Medina encouraged the students to continue with their studies to make the Dominican Republic big. Honored students were: Alice B. Banks, Esmeralda Adriana Santiago, Félix Alexander Mejía Ortiz, Jhelibanny Paloma Martínez Rodríguez, Cismary Altagracia Tavarez Mercado, Luis Dewris Quezada and Michael Espinal Brito.

The Presidency reported that the students shared anecdotes of their life in the United States.

The Dominican consulate in New York is in charge of the program. Consul general Carlos Castillo said that the initiative began in 1997. This year, 548 students were recognized. Of these, 10 were chosen to travel to the Dominican Republic to represent the group. As part of the program, the students will receive half-tuition scholarships from the Dominican government to continue their studies.
